History of Physiotherapy

Let’s start from beginning.

Did you know that the origin and history of physiotherapy can be traced back as far as 460 B.C. to such luminary physicians as Hippocrates and later Galenus? Those names probably don’t mean anything to you, but ask any doctor today and they’ll tell you that Hippocrates is considered the “Father of Medicine” and Galenus the most accomplished medical researcher in antiquity. When your profession is linked to names like that? Now that’s legit. Needless to say then, physiotherapy is a well-recognized, established, and trusted profession within healthcare. If you’re receiving physiotherapy, know that you’re receiving a form of treatment that has been time-tested for over a couple millennia.

What is physiotherapy?

“Okay, I get it. Physiotherapy has a long-standing history and is trusted in the healthcare industry, but what is it exactly?

Glad you asked.

Physiotherapy (a.k.a. Physical Therapy) is a healthcare profession focused on human function and movement as well as maximizing physical potential and quality of life. It evaluates, restores and maintains physical function by using non-surgical techniques in order to treat and prevent a wide assortment of injuries and diseases.

As physiotherapists, then, we have detailed and specialized knowledge of human anatomy and physiology of the human body. We excel in our ability to assess and identify underlying causes of problems related to muscles, joints, ligaments, and bones (ie. musculoskeletal problems) as well as nerves and provide treatment accordingly.

Why choose physiotherapy at Get Well Rehab?

“Okay, great! So the profession of physiotherapy is historical, well-recognized, and trusted. There is, however, a physiotherapist on every street corner. Why should I choose your physiotherapist in particular?”

“What makes you different and separates you from everybody else?”

First of all, the comprehensive nature of our examinations. Treating without the right diagnosis is like cooking without the right ingredients – the results just won’t be there. At Get Well Rehab, we pride ourselves in the accuracy of our diagnoses brought on by a thorough examination of your condition. Specifically, we spend an hour on the initial assessment to ensure that we’ve dotted every “i” and crossed every “t” to ensure that we know exactly what your condition is that we’re treating. At Get Well Rehab, you can rest assured knowing that your health is our top priority, assisting you to achieve the health outcomes that you desire.

Secondly, we primarily use hands-on therapy. In a day and age where in every sector, machines are rapidly replacing humans, unfortunately this is too often the case in healthcare as well. However, you and I know that there’s a healing power in the human touch that no machine can ever replace. At Get Well Rehab, we hold strong to this principle. Your treatment sessions are 1-to-1 with our physiotherapist for a full half-hour. You deserve that kind of personal attention and we’re here to provide that for you. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Thirdly, you will enjoy a hassle-free insurance process. Whether your injury occurred in a car accident, at the workplace, or simply a daily living issue, our clinic has an insurance navigator specifically to assist you in dealing directly with your insurance company to ensure minimal work and stress on your part. Let us take care of the hassle of all the paperwork and administration and dealing with insurance, you can simply focus on your healing.

Lastly, at Get Well Rehab, we aren’t simply a stand-alone physiotherapy clinic, but an integrative multidisciplinary team of both physicians and allied health practitioners all under the same roof. This means that whatever your needs are, we have the solution right here in-house. Perhaps your physical condition is actually being impacted by emotional or psychological reasons – we have an in-house psychotherapist to help you cope. Perhaps your insurance requires a physician referral to access your physiotherapy benefits – we have in-house medical doctors. At Get Well Rehab, we are dedicated to providing you with the most comprehensive care possible, and that starts with a multidisciplinary team of health practitioners and physicians.
